I paint to chase that magic moment. The moment when all that sloppy paint turns into something real and alive. I can never stop looking for that moment.

Light is everything. It is elusive and can transform an ordinary landscape or figure into something magical. No other medium captures the vibrancy and intensity of light and color in the same way as pastel. For this, and many other reasons, I love the power of pastel. chriscookfineart.com

I am inspired by the interplay of light and color that I see in the beauty of God’s creations and try to capture the mood of the moment in my paintings. I paint mostly in oil for the incredible richness of the color and flexibility. I am continually exploring new techniques that will allow for expressive interpretations of each scene in my plein air and studio work.

I hopped into the shower this morning and noticed that I had pyrrole orange paint on my knees and manganese blue on my toes. It made me happy. When I paint I am so totally absorbed in the act of creativity that I sling paint everywhere. I think each of us have a need to find something of importance in our lives. Art is my “worthwhile”.

The goal of my art is to interpret the Southwest, the four dimensions, in a beautiful, thoughtful way. The art represents a biased viewpoint, incapable of approaching the sublime sense of being there. I seek to find a balance between experience and representation. The images sometimes reach beyond what is visible, to include what is usually held only in the mind. They may not be for everybody. But if you’ve been there, they just might be for you. http://www.mietty-art.com

Working primarily in oils and acrylics I strive to create an atmosphere of light and shadow through color. Using a combination of impressionism and realism I strive to capture the beauty of a time or place and I love the thrill of finding just the right subject at just the right time of day. Favorite subject matter includes the Southwest landscape, florals, animals, figures and the evening light. My goal is to create a joyful revelation in the observer through color, light or subject. snelsonart.com

Art is something I do every day. I write, I draw, I paint, and I teach. The very act of creating a piece of artwork is what I find most fascinating, the process of starting with nothing and ending with something beautiful and engaging. I love color and all of the endless combinations that come from my palette. I love texture that comes from interesting surface treatments. My mediums of choice include calligraphy, acrylic, drawing, watercolor, collage and woodcarving. Every day I go to my studio and make new discoveries. Art, for me is not an option, it is a way of life.

“Follow your bliss and doors and opportunities will open up to you.” -Joseph Campbell. So true! Since I’ve retired from teaching,, painting has brought me much joy. I love where we live and whether I paint plein air or in mu studio, my paintings are a celebration of the beauty that surrounds us. Each day I learn more and look forward to where it will lead me. What a delightful journey!

Life is sweet! Creativity through cookies, served with coffee!!

Creating art is about seeing what everyone sees and thinking what nobody thinks. Do something that’s routine each day differently from the day before, like shaving in a different pattern. If you use the term “think outside the box”, then you are in a box and probably can’t think outside it. Adventures await.
